Adapted Instruments and Approaches
This page supports the State of Access survey. It explains what we mean by adapted instruments and approaches
Definitions:
Adapted instrument: a modified or specialist instrument, controller or interface that enables access. This may include digital instruments (e.g. Soundbeam, gesture-based controllers, MIDI controllers, tablet-based instruments, haptic or wearable devices), as well as physical adaptations such as specialist grips, supports, mounts or altered instruments.
Adapted approach: changes to how music is created or performed to support access. This may include the use of technology (e.g. assistive software, DAWs, alternative control methods, loop-based performance), as well as modified techniques or alternative ways of playing.
